Since our founding in 1992, the Center has transformed how reproductive rights are understood and applied by courts, governments, and human rights bodies worldwide on issues including maternal health, abortion, assisted reproduction, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We have won groundbreaking cases before national courts, U.N. Committees, and regional human rights bodies. Additionally, the Center has led the development of historic, proactive legislation advancing robust protections for reproductive rights and has built the legal capacity of women's rights advocates in more than 65 countries and counting.


The Role: The Center's Europe department is recruiting a legal fellow to undertake law and policy and related research on a range of reproductive rights issues in Europe and support the team's work. This one-year Fellow (with the possibility of extension for a 2nd year) will report to the Associate Director for Europe while working closely with other members of the Europe department. The Fellow will contribute to research, policy and advocacy work to advance reproductive rights in Europe.

The fellow will be hosted in the Center's Geneva office in a hybrid model of 3-days in-office, two-days working from home.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and track developments in laws and policies on reproductive rights issues across Europe
  • Conduct legal and policy research on national laws in Europe, EU law and international human rights law and standards regarding a range of reproductive rights issues
  • Contribute to legal and policy analysis on reproductive rights issues
  • Contribute to drafting written materials, including publication, advocacy materials, talking points, submissions, and correspondence and support publication processes
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations
  • Support communication strategies, including drafting social media and web site content.
  • Support organization of events, workshops and meetings
  • Assist with program administration, including web site updates, filing, monitoring and evaluation
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in law, human rights or a related field
  • 1 to 2 years relevant professional experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, human rights, or related social justice field.
  • Excellent English oral and written communications skills and proficiency in another European.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills, including capacity to analyze complex legal issues and ability to communicate them clearly and effectively
  • Knowledge of international and European human rights law, standards, and systems
  • Knowledge of EU law an asset
  • Strong critical thinking skills and creative approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills including ability to self-motivate, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Capable of receiving and engaging with feedback
  • Strong commitment to the Center's mission, purpose, and values.

Compensation: The salary for this position is CHF 86,000.
